Trainee solicitors

When we recruit trainee solicitors, we look for people with a commitment to client care and to helping BTMK move forward, as well as drive, motivation, excellent interpersonal skills and a flexible attitude to their work.

As a trainee solicitor, you will also need to be ambitious, with a strong academic track record and be able to inspire confidence in clients and your fellow colleagues.

Your desire to go the extra mile will set you apart as a high calibre candidate, who combines a commercially minded approach with a social conscience.

How do we recruit?

From 1 December each year, we start looking for between three and six recruits to join us the following September.

We only accept applications for training contracts via our online application form, which you can access here.

If your initial online application is successful, you will then be invited to an interview selection day along with other candidates. During the day, you will complete a timed written exercise and be interviewed by our selection panel.

What does the training contract involve?

Our training programme is flexible, depending on departmental requirements, with regular supervision by BTMK members.

Normally trainees undertake four seats in their first year, rotating every three months. Where possible, second year trainees are given the option to spend the last six months of their training contract in the department within which they wish to qualify.

We invest substantial time and resources into your training and development so that you qualify as an accomplished and capable lawyer. We seek to retain many of our trainees and like to recruit our solicitors from within.
