BTMK hosts successful seminar for care home owners
Southend-based firm of solicitors BTMK has teamed up with banking giant Lloyds TSB to host a free seminar for business owners in the care home industry.
The event, which took place at the Park Inn Palace Hotel, in Southend, on July 1st, was attended by 87 care home professionals who came to hear the latest expert advice on the latest issues affecting their sector.
The seminar was hosted by BTMK partner and care home specialist Nitin Khandia, who opened proceedings with John Judge, a healthcare banking consultant from Lloyds TSB.
Keynote speaker Judi Burwood, of the Care Quality Commission, gave a presentation on the registration process for care homes under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, also answering questions from delegates on best practice and pitfalls.
BTMK partner Fiona McAnaw, who heads up the firm’s employment law department, provided an update on the employment issues affecting care homes, while there was also considerable interest in BTMK’s employment protection scheme. Lee Emptage, a solicitor in BTMK’s commercial department, gave an insight into the best ways to deal with the buying and selling of care home businesses.
Financial matters were also covered, with Mark Ellis, head of social banking at Lloyds TSB, detailing the bank’s commitment to lending for the care home sector.
