Anti-discrimination law affects all aspects of employment from recruitment right through to retirement or dismissal.

Employers will be held liable for the acts of their employees, even if they were not aware that discrimination was taking place. This can be extremely costly as awards for employees in discrimination claims are currently unlimited.

For this reason we advise all employers, regardless of size, to operate an up to date equal opportunities policy. All employees should be made aware of their obligations under the relevant anti-discrimination legislation and a copy of the equal opportunities policy should be accessible to them.

We can assist not only with the drafting of the policy statement, but also in training you and your staff regarding their obligations. It is important that employers seek professional advice immediately if they become concerned that discrimination has taken place.
