The role of Acas
When an employment tribunal receives a claim, in most cases it will send a copy to Acas. On receiving the claim, Acas will offer conciliation, which is a free, impartial and confidential service to assist in settling the dispute.
In conciliation, Acas will act acting as a neutral channel of communication, to explore whether an acceptable, legally binding settlement can be reached, avoiding the need for a tribunal hearing. The opportunity for Acas conciliation remains open up until the date of the tribunal.
