A redundancy situation can be a potentially fair reason for dismissing an employee.
A genuine redundancy situation must exist and the employee should be warned and consulted regarding the potential redundancy. A pool for selection should be drawn up and fair selection criteria applied to all of those in the pool.
Finally, before the redundancy is confirmed, the employee should be considered for any alternative employment within the organisation. If your employer has informed you that you may be made redundant it is often useful to take advice on the situation from the outset.
We can advise you whether there has been unfairness in your selection or the redundancy procedure generally.
