Magistrates' Court
All criminal cases for adults begin in the Magistrates' Court, with the majority being disposed of there, ranging from road traffic law to matters of violence and dishonesty.
BTMK offer representation by a specialist Magistrates' Court team, dedicated in its belief that everyone accused of an offence, of whatever nature, is entitled to a strong and committed representation.
At both Chelmsford and Southend, our offices are within a few hundred yards of the courthouses, making BTMK uniquely placed to provide speedy assistance in the Magistrates’ Court proceedings.
The department provides assistance on a daily basis concerning:
- Representation at all stages of proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court including pleas, bail applications, trials and sentencing.
- Advice on appeals to the Crown Court against the Magistrates’ Court decision.
- Road traffic matters.
- Prosecutions brought by the health and safety executive, the environmental agency, trading standards, benefits agency of the department of trade and industry.
Funding is often available through the criminal Legal Aid system. Please click here for information on 'Legal Aid'.
